L. DALE MITCHELL BASEBALL PARK
University of Oklahoma
Triad designed the original L. Dale Mitchell Baseball Park, dedicated in 1982, and
developed a Master Plan with OU A&E Services to ensure an unparalleled venue for
NCAA and Big 12 Conference collegiate baseball. Renovations in 1998 included an
upper concourse, new locker room, restrooms, concessions, canopy over the complex,
as well as updates to existing training, equipment and locker rooms. Prior to the
2002 season, the press box and radio broadcast booths were upgraded to state-of-the-art
technology and significantly expanded, adding VIP suites and a handicap accessible
elevator.
The latest completed project is a comprehensive indoor/outdoor practice facility
which opened in time for the 2009 Sooner Baseball season. The new addition is located
down the left-field line west of the home bullpen and covers 22,500 sq. ft. of the
existing park. It includes a natural grass regulation-size in-field, a 5,160 sq.
ft. heated and air conditioned indoor batting area and three full-size hitting and
pitching lanes.
Future improvements planned will increase stadium capacity for a second time with
options to add a National Championship team meeting room and enhance the overall
aesthetics of the park.
