CANADIAN COUNTY LOAD POSTED BRIDGES

ODOT

SH 4 over Turtle Creek SH 4 over Turtle Creek SH 66 at Banner Road

ODOT retained Triad for bridge and roadway design services for two projects located along US 66 and SH 4 in Canadian County, Oklahoma. Both structures were designed to LRFD and AASHTO specifications with grading, drainage, surfacing, bridge, and erosion control plans included in the scope of services.

SH 66 OVER PURCELL CREEK. The new three-span (40.25', 60', 40.25') steel beam bridge is almost square in plan with dimensions of 140'-6" long by 129'-9" wide due to sight distance and turning issues. The pavement section matches the existing four-lane divided facilities with thee-foot paved inside shoulders, eight-foot paved outside shoulders, with a thirty-foot grass median east of the bridge, and a flush concrete median west of the bridge to Banner Road. Signalization and geometric improvements were made at the SH 66 and Banner Road intersection. Located within a FEMA designated Zone A flood hazard area, the project was designed to meet FEMA and Canadian County regulations. All improvements were designed to stay within current right-of-way.

SH 4 OVER TRIBUTARY TURTLE CREEK. A new reinforced concrete box replaced the existing single span located north 0.8 miles of SH 66 over the Unnamed Creek Bridge near Wagner Road. The new two-lane facility with eight-foot shoulders was constructed along the existing alignment as traffic continued by means of a detour. Hydraulic analysis employed the US Army Corps of Engineers HEC-RAS. The structure is designed to meet or exceed ODOT and FHWA requirements for hydraulic design.
