DURANT BYPASSODOT
Triad Design Group engaged its full range of transportation engineering services for this nine mile virgin alignment roadway and bridge project to redirect US 70 traffic around the south side of the City of Durant in Bryan County, Oklahoma. Located 95 miles north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and home to Lake Texoma State Park, Durant is an increasingly popular recreational destination area. The major east-west corridor which links North Carolina's east coast to Arizona, currently passes through a fully developed downtown Durant, making a bypass the only feasible solution for traffic mitigation. The four lane divided roadway configuration, planned in three project phases, will result in a controlled access facility comprised of a full cloverleaf interchange, a folded-diamond interchange, and a standard diamond interchange.
Notable for its structural challenges, the project's twenty-six bridges, all designed to AASHTO LRFD specifications, include two mainline bridges over the Kiamichi RR, four over two creeks, and four overpasses crossing US 70. Phases I and II include ten bridges: six are framed with Prestressed Concrete AASHTO girders; five are Steel Plate Girders, and one is a Reinforced Concrete Bridge Box. Structural components employed for the pre-cast concrete and steel bridges were equal and unequal spans, horizontal curves, curved deck, chorded beams and skewed elements.
An additional ODOT/Triad contract includes design and construction plans for a US 69 & US 69B Fly-Over Ramp accessing the Choctaw Casino from the Bypass. Triad completed a Design Study for two alternates and Final Plans for the selected alternate which will improve the capacity of the at-grade intersection at Choctaw Road and US 69/75 in Durant.
