I-40 / MORGAN ROAD INTERCHANGE CITY OF OKLAHOMA CITY/ODOT
Oklahoma's first Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI) is Triad's redesign solution
for the Canadian County interchange at I-40 and Morgan Road, a significant access
point on the east-west US Interstate corridor. The existing partial cloverleaf interchange,
constructed in the mid 1960's and located in Oklahoma City corporate limits, can
no longer effectively support current or future traffic volumes. Major truck stop
travel plazas on each of the four corners have created extreme traffic congestion
and unsafe traffic conditions. Triad's Alternative Analysis Design Study confirmed
that the SPUI's efficient turning radii, traffic control, and overall configuration
would accommodate the area's high turning volumes and work well within limited footprints
and constraints of adjacent site traffic.
A Cost Study prepared by Triad for ODOT compared deck shape and bridge girder framing,
resulting in the selection of a rectangular deck design. Plan preparation is underway
on hydraulics for storm sewer and trunk line, sequence of construction, right-of-way,
and utilities. Preliminary Planning included: environmental studies of traffic;
level of service and access; modification study; public notice services; hazardous
waste services; field survey; as-built-drawings; roadway plans; signals; lighting;
right-of-way.
